14 Jan The PERFECT Travel Playlist
A playlist sets the mood, changes your mindset, gives your life a soundtrack. A good playlist is essential for the perfect travel experience. I love to put my headphones in, hike, and just enjoy the moment. Check out my PERFECT (No really, I’m convinced these songs are perfect) travel playlist.
Lake Michigan by Rogue Wave
If you haven’t seen The Secret Life of Walter Mitty yet, go watch it right now. What an inspiring and amazing movie. I found this song from it, and it is on every travel playlist since them.
I Remember by Yeasayer
Traveling with a lover? Just appreciate good indie music? Want a song that will be stuck in your head for hours? This Yeasayer song will fulfill any of those requirements while making yourself feel like you’re in a whole other world. The song has such a unique musical quality about it that makes the whole scene feel unreal. If you want to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of a whole new place, I recommend this song.
Sun Hands by Local Natives
Sun Hands is such a wonderful mountain song. The beat makes you think of taking steps across an open plain or up a mountain. It makes me want to see every sunset and sunrise that the world has to offer.
Eyes Wide Open by Gotye
Gotye. You know him as the one-hit-wonder who sang “Somebody that I Used to Know.” I know him as the guy who actually made a really great album. Fun fact, he got his start as a drummer for an Australian band which is why his beats are so dang catchy. This song is perfect for watching the miles go by and being introspective while looking out the window. Part of travel is having time with yourself and your thoughts. I like this song for moments like that.
Also, Gotye makes ridiculous music videos. Please enjoy.
Rio by Orangutang
The pipes on this guy are incredible. Also, it’s incredibly catchy. My husband doesn’t enjoy the after math of it though because I tend to sing it non-stop. The problem is that I still don’t know any of the words. I just scream the tune from the mountain tops (literally). Also, I’ve never been to Rio, but I intend to listen to this song when I go.
There Will Be Time by Mumford and Sons
I love this song so much that I wanted it to be our first dance at our wedding. My husband said no because we can’t dance. He was right, but I’m still mad about it. This song is written with an African artist and inspired by African rhythms. It progressively gets stronger and faster throughout the song, in the same way that love gets stronger and stronger.
“In the cold light I live to love and adore you”
Thanks for traveling with me, Eric. You’re the best adventure buddy.
Little Wanderer by Death Cab for Cutie
I thought about naming my blog “Little Wanderer” after this song. I changed my mind though because by nature I am a very strong-willed and passionate person, so “little” seemed underwhelming to me. Nonetheless, this song reminds travelers of those who are waiting for them when they get home, and the love that traverses the distance.
Ends of the Earth by Lord Huron
This song is such a peaceful travel inspiration. I would go to the ends of the earth with Eric, and I plan to. This song is just such a sweet song. Listen and enjoy.
Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap
This is my cliche road trip song. Whenever I am driving while listening to it, it makes me think of being in a movie and traveling somewhere awesome. I would love for my life to be movie quality.
Holocene by Bon Iver
This song is everything.
I saved it for last for a reason. This song is like nothing I have ever heard before. I listened to it often when hiking to remind me of the magnificence of this world. The beauty of the land. The power of the mountains. The greatest of our God. And the smallness of me. I want the lyrics tattoo on my body like traveling tattoos them on my soul. I truly live for this song.
I am not magnificent, but this song is.
